FORT MEADE, Md.–When I was planning Road Trip 2010, which would be on the East Coast, I wanted to arrange a visit to the National Security Agency to talk about the latest technology (that it could talk about). Unfortunately, that opportunity never materialized.
Fortunately, the NSA maintains the National Cryptologic Museum, a fantastic history of code and code-breaking machines, and so my visit ended up being about historical, rather than contemporary, history.
Being about cryptology, there's no doubt that the star of the museum is the Enigma, the German device used by the Nazis in World War II to encrypt their messages and which the Allies finally broke.
This is Enigma. As the museum puts it, “In the years following World War I, both commercial and financial institutions came to rely heavily on radio for rapid worldwide communication. The desire to render their message unintelligible to any but the intended recipient soon gave rise to a small, but lucrative, cipher machine industry.
“Numerous machines and devices were invented to meet the need. The electromechanical, wired-rotor machine known commercially as Enigma was among the best.
“A Dutchman, Hugo A. Koch, conceived the idea of the Enigma in 1919. The first commercial model was produced in 1923.”
The museum's explanation continues: “Impressed by Enigma's security, based on careful statistical analysis, the German government moved to acquire all rights to the machine. After Hitler's takeover in 1933, Enigma was no longer commercially available. The use of the machine spread to all branches of the German government. As German military might began to grow, a new version of the machine, which featured an added plugboard or 'steckler,' was adopted for general use by all services.”

Ooh la la-palooza exploded into a purple disco bacchanal tonight as Lady Gaga made her long-awaited appearance on stage (actually, for the second time today — the pop firebrand stunned the crowd by showing up to play drums briefly for glam-rockers Semi-Precious Weapons, the opening act on her Monster Ball tour). She then kissed band leader Justin Tranter while crowd-surfing. (Video here — you ain't going to see Taylor Swift do this).
Gaga — a very different artist from the little-known performer who appeared at Lollapalooza three years ago — staged a mini-version of her traveling tour production, providing Lollapalooza attendees with a sprawling set of hits, many of them played on a piano inside a smoking, rusted-out green car. See her stunning return to Grant Park in the pics (and then see more at Buzznet. Sylvester Stallone co-wrote, directed and stars in The Expendables, an action film packed with well-known names from the genre. Stallone gathered together just about every action actor imaginable for the film, including Jason Statham, Jet Li, Bruce Willis (in a cameo), Arnold Schwarzenegger (in a cameo), Steve Austin, Terry Crews and Randy Couture, and Lionsgate Films is set to release The Expendables on August 13th. With the release date approaching quickly, the studio has just put out another batch of photos and video clips from the R-rated drama.

I review another MacBook professional edition 15.4″ notebook. This is part of my series of Apple Notebook reviews that I was prompted to write after noticing consumer trends and high sales of Apple's mobile computers. In this review I'll let you know what you can expect with this notebook as well as who will get the most for their money. Let me start with a few of the basics.
Hardware:
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Storage Space: 250GB (Serial ATA) Hard Drive
RAM: 2GB DDR2 SDRAM
Optical Drive: Apple's “Superdrive” which is an all in one CD R/RW integrated with DVD +/- R RW
Dimensions: 9.6″ x 14.1″ x 1″
Weighing: 5.4 pounds
Display: 15.4″ matte LCD
Graphics Accelerator: GeForce 8600M GT with 512 MB of dedicated video RAM
This professional MacBook has a few differences from its less expensive counterpart. It has an increased amount of video ram. It also has a slightly larger hard drive. I'm not sure why Apple didn't upgrade the RAM as well at least to 3GB. If you're interested in this notebook you're almost surely going to expect a little more than a paltry 2GB. In my experience most users that purchase one of these MB134LL/A tend to run a dual boot system with Vista and like having the extra RAM (vista consumes RAM like its jello).
Everything else is on point. The display is crisp and sharp running at a resolution of 1440×990. This is going to be better than most traditional laptop displays you're likely accustomed to. The only thing I don't like about this one that I have is the matte finish to the screen. It is meant to reduce glare however in my opinion it also reduces the screen's ability to adapt to bright lighting conditions. You should make sure before you buy if you want the matte or glossy screen.
At 1″ thick and weighing just over 5lbs this is a wonderfully portable notebook for as powerful as it is. It truly is impressive engineering from Apple. I love the materials, the aluminum exterior is great, and runs cool.
Connectivity:
2 FireWire (400 and 800, use this for transferring data between two computers or off of your digital camcorder)
2 2.0USB 2.0 ports (use these to connect any number of peripherals like digital cameras or printers)
DVI
VGA (via DVI, for standard monitors)
1 Expresscard
Integrated WiFi
Integrated Bluetooth
I believe this notebook has excellent connectivity. I even like how the power cord attaches. This is an excellent machine. As I've mentioned with all of the professional editions of Apple's MacBook I recommend this for… well… professionals or those that otherwise have more money than they need. Anyone other than gamers or multimedia professionals won't truly use everything this notebook has to offer. For the casual user the MacBooks in the $1000 will do all that they'll require of it.

After making the decision to schedule your boudoir photography session it's time to start preparing. Here are a few tips to ensure you get the best boudoir portraits.
1. Makeup
It is strongly recommended to hire a professional makeup artist. It will add to the overall cost of the boudoir portraits but will be well worth it in the long run. You may find that some boudoir photographers include a professional makeup artist in your boudoir package. And others photographers will be able refer you to a makeup artist.
Remember to allow at least 30 – 45 minutes if you're having your make up applied or an hour and a half if you are having your hair styled as well.
If you choose to do your makeup yourself here are a couple of pointers:
- Eye makeup and blush should be fairly heavily applied. Try and be neat and precise. Boudoir photography tends to be unforgiving.
- Don't use frosted lipstick! It appears too light in photographs.
- Keep eye shadow a shade lighter than normal to accentuate your eyes.
- Lipstick should be at least a shade deeper, particularly if you have dark hair or are going to wear dark clothing.
- Use powder based make-up to maintain a matte finish on your skin.
Clothing and Props
Boudoir, or erotic photography, is often associated with nudity or lingerie. As a matter of fact, a lot of men find their wives dressed as it's also known in their gear to be more attractive than dressing in lingerie. Naturally you should to stick with something you are comfortable with.
The choice of props and clothing for your boudoir portraits are literally endless. Some interesting possibilities are:
His favorite sports team jersey, some tools of his trade, his uniform or a favorite button down shirt. Or maybe something a little more classy like a slinky cocktail dress, a fur coat, a blouse, gloves and hats and of course the old favorites stockings and high heels.
Perhaps sexy choices like a bodystocking, colorful panties and bra, boy shorts, way too tight cut-offs – actually anything tight and anything transparent! If you have any tasteful photographic nudes you want to copy, bring the photos along. Non traditional items are also very effective for boudoir photography.
Some goodies are a bath robe or towel, tight shorts, biker shorts, tight or short tank tops, tees with rips or holes, anything leather, scarves, mini skirts, your slumming at home outfit, boxer shorts, the tools of your trade, workout outfit, cowboy boots and hat, and anything he has given you.
Some great ideas for boudoir portrait props include most home or romantic items, flowers, sun glasses, scarves, beads, wine glasses or teddy bears. Try and consider your choice of these items from his perspective. This is a gift for him after all. Don't be afraid to be daring and creative.
When thinking boudoir, don't forget about the details, check for labels on new items and look out for tears or holes, unless you want them there, of course!
Boudoir photography takes a bit of planning and time. So consider these other tips for your big day.
Relax.
Have something light to eat before the shoot and try and have a bottle of water or juice handy. If you feel a little nervous, ask your sister or girlfriend to sit in with you. You could even split the session with them!
Manage your time.
There is nothing that ruins the atmosphere of boudoir photography quicker than being stressed. Leave yourself enough time to have your hair and makeup done and to get home in good time to complete any last minute errands.
Try to wear loose fitting clothes that don't leave marks.
These take awhile to clear and can waste valuable time. Button up shirts will leave your makeup and hair intact and clear deodorants allow for a larger range of the poses that make for great boudoir portraits.
For His Eyes Only
Taking boudoir portraits is a great gift for the man in your life, it's for his eyes only. And just remember, boudoir photography is erotic, glamor, and naughty all rolled up into one…have fun!

the staff of the Kabekonian yearbook, said the two students who designed the homecoming spread wanted to make the photo of Brochman larger. She argued that it shouldn't be the main angle of the homecoming story. The main photos were of the royalty and students decked out in spirit wear. The Brochman photo, accompanied by a quote from him, was one of seven smaller photos.
Four pages later, on the cross country team's page, a story says the incident strained relationships between team members, who included Brochman, and their coach. Hansen thought that balanced out the photo.
In the end, Hansen said, the streaking incident was part of the pep rally and it was a big deal to the students.
“I know the school leadership isn't happy about it. But I still believe it's a news event. It happened, and you can't deny it happened,” Hansen said.
Streakers during homecoming aren't new at Stillwater High School. And Hansen said every time it has happened, a photo has ended up in the yearbook. One year, the streaker was actually naked. The photo showed him clothed — and being handcuffed.
Hansen said there has never been backlash in the past.
“It does represent the views of the students, and sometimes that doesn't coincide with school leadership,” she said.
The incident happened Sept. 25. Brochman disappeared through the gym's west exit, but school officials figured out the streaker was probably a member of the school's cross country team based on his speed and body type.
When administrators approached the team's coach with a photo, Brochman confessed. His punishment was to spend two weeks in an “alternative to suspension” program called the Youth and Community Accountability and Prevention Program, which is at the Washington County Historic Courthouse in Stillwater.
Laager said at the time that students were expressly informed during the first few weeks of the school year that they would be punished if they were caught streaking or trying to streak.
For Rolf, it's not the picture in the yearbook that bothers her. It's how her son was punished in the fall, then glorified in the spring.
“They just turned around and glorified it to sell some yearbooks,” Rolf said. “And next year, they're not just going to have one streaker. They're going to have five or 10.”

Cloudburst Research this week released AutoStitch 3.0 bringing major improvements in panoramic photography not just for the iPhone, but also iPod Touch and, perhaps more importantly for the iPad.
AutoStitch is a really clever fully automatic image stitcher, which means you take a load of photos and the software ’stitches’ them together to create wide-angle views and panoramas. It sounds highly technical but I am assured it is very simple to use!
Having created your wonderful panoramic photos you have several options. You can save them to your photo album, email them to your friends, or even post them straight to Facebook!
AutoStitch is believed to be the only solution on the market that can automatically do this, bringing together pretty much any selection of photos to create a high-res panorama of up to 20 megapixels!!
AutoStitch is available now for the iPhone 3G/3GS, iPad and iPod Touch and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store for only US$2.99, and that just has to be a real bargain for such a clever bit of software!

Technology always captivates consumers. Some of the best gadgets and technological advancements are introduced each year in the International CES in Vegas, really addressing new meaning in pioneer and intelligent devices.
The best gadgets announced at CES 2010, according to experts and consumer reviews, are the following:
a) Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid
Featuring fascinating notebooks with IdeaPad U1 Hybrid on the lead, Lenovo has really made a striking impression at this year's CES. Being the first PC in the industry that allows users to remove the screen and switch to a six-screen multitouch tablet that functions independently with its own processor and operating system, the IdeaPad U1 integrates Lenovo's Hybrid Switch technology allowing both PCs to function perfectly on the two processors effortlessly.
Featuring textured surface on the inside and a sleek, transparent dark red cover that cannot but capture the consumer's eye, the shiny round notebook comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM processor in tablet mode, 11.6″ HD LED display, 4GB of memory RAM and 160GB storage capacity on the SSD running on Windows 7 Home Premium. When pulled out of its showcase, Lenovo switches to Skylight UI that functions as a detached tablet with an ARM processor running alongside Lenovo's customized Linux Skylight operating system.
The base, when detached, continues to work as its own Core 2 Duo SU41 opening up potential for the U1 to truly act as two devices in one. Both laptop and tablet modes support over 5 hours of 3G Web browsing and up to 60 hours of 3G standby. The tablet's edge-to-edge glass is comfortable and the chromed edges tempting, but some areas that need attention are the keyboard (too flat for Lenovo's standards), and perhaps ergonomics (notebook weight is 3.7 pounds, tablet weight is 1.6 pounds).
The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is not expected to hit the market before June 1st, 2010, while its suggested retail price is $999.
b) Motorola Backflip smartphone
Scheduled for a global release at the Q1 2010, the Backflip comes with a 528-MHz Qualcomm MSM 7200A processor on Google Android 1.5 OS, 3.1″ touchscreen that natively supports 320 x 480 resolution, Wi-Fi, 3G and 5-megapixel camera. Besides, the device supports Moto Blur social-networking add-ons, Bluetooth and a 2GB memory card that can be expanded up to 32GB.
However, the best asset of the Backflip is its unique design. When it is closed, both the screen and the keyboard face out. The device can be flipped in a V-shape or totally flat to watch a movie or it can be used as a picture frame or alarm clock. When the device is open, it allows users to navigate on its touchscreen or use a trackball for navigation.
c) Sony HDR-XR550V camcorder
Featuring a 240GB HDD, 3.5″ LCD with 1920 x 1080 Full HD video recording, 12-megapixel still image capture with wide angle Sony G Lens with 10x optical zoom and Direct Copy feature, Sony HDR-XR550V camcorder is a unique camera that enable users to capture astonishingly smooth video from wide angle to full telephoto shooting.
Besides, the HDR-XR550V is a great device to experience low-light sensitivity with enhanced image clarity and considerably reduced grain due its revolutionary 'Exmor R' CMOS sensor. Designed exclusively for compact cameras and camcorders, the 'Exmor R' CMOS sensor is intended for shooting video in lower lighting conditions with superior results. Also, the Sony G Lens offers enhanced optical performance delivering bright, accurate color reproduction and sharp, astonishingly detailed images.
d) Panasonic VT25 Plasma HDTV
Panasonic announced the release of the new plasma VIERA VT25 Series that is expected to hit the market in the spring of 20102 and offers users the full HD 3D capability. The set will include one pair of 3D glasses for an unforgettable 3D experience and an active LC shutter system. What is even more impressive than offering the 3D glasses – at a time that no other manufacturer provides them – is that the left and the right lens of the glasses lightens and darkens successively and too quickly to be perceived, while the TV displays the corresponding left and right-eye-specific images at the same time. The result is Panasonic's 'Full HD 3D' content of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels for each eye.
Besides, the set features Skype video calling, Wi-Fi connection (optional), the option to add Pandora, Twitter, Netflix and Fox Sports to own content through VieraCast interactive suite and infinite Black Pro, among others.

I made new Pics in the last couple of days – please tell me when you like them:
In the past, couples were satisfied with taking pictures at the church and reception hall. Then one day someone decided it would be cool to take pictures outdoors. I have no idea when taking outdoor photos became a trend, but the fact is it is now a must have for every brides photo album. I found this out while helping my sister plan her wedding. Every photographer that we met had displayed very few pictures of a bride and groom in a church, but instead they all posted huge poster-sized photos of couples in beautiful outdoor locations!
Suddenly these everyday wedding couples turned into models. It seemed simple for the photographer to take any pretty location, a happy couple, and add on some professional photo effects to make something that was more than just a photo. Instead it was a work of art. Does this sound interesting to you? Then read on to find how to pick a great location for your photos, plus some local places for Michigan Brides to check out.
What types of places should I look for?
Here comes the hard part, finding a place that is not only photogenic, but is also going to work for you. Following are some tips to help you decide where and what kinds of photos you want:
1: Think of your favorite places. It is time to think outside the box! If there is a certain place that is really special to you and your spouse, this is the first place you should look. For example, my brother grew up near Detroit and he made a point to stop at Comerica Park to take a few pictures with the Tiger. These are fun pictures that they are sure to always remember because it is unique and captures a part of their personal history.
Other examples are: the place where you and your fiance first met, the location of your first date, a place you two visit together often that is special to you. Perhaps you just want to stop at some hot spots around town. Whatever the case may be, only do this IF you are willing to let go of your inhibitions. If you are too shy or embarrassed to take photos in front of people who may think you are cuckoo, then you better pass on this idea. By the way, people will think you are cuckoo if you are taking photos in front of the ice cream shop where you had your first date. However, if you know you can open up and just have fun with it, I guarantee you will love your fun and unique pics!
2: What do you find pretty? Some couples find beauty in historical landmarks, houses, and things of that nature. If this is something you enjoy also, check out your local historical hot spots. Many of these historical places are now turned into parks where any visitor can stop by for pictures.
3: Find the water! For some reason I associate outdoor photos with water. It seems like having a lake, pond, river or even the ocean (if you live on the coast) in the background can make any wedding photo just pop. Busy public areas may not be promising as there will likely be a lot of people around, however check out the small lakes and rivers that run by your town. Even if it is just a tiny pond, your photographer should be able to focus on the water in a way that makes it look great in your pictures.
4: Plants and Trees. Plant life is perhaps the main pull for taking photos outside. Almost any tree can add a great backdrop to your photos, and trees can be found in almost any park. OR, if you have a relative with a forest in the backyard, you can even use that! Flowers are more popular in wedding photos, so if you love the thought of a background full of blooming flowers, think about visiting some local gardens or (once again) historical landmarks which are often decorated with flowers. You have to think about the time of year you are taking photos as well since there won't be many flowers found in February, but there will be lots in the summer.
5: Props. If you don't think you can take photos with just water and plants, seek a place that has props. Many parks and other places have pretty gazebos, bridges, fences, and other props that can really add to your photos. These props can also be a great way for your photographer to mix it up a little and provide some variety in your photos.
6: Other ideas. Now that you have an idea of what types of pictures other people take, now you can branch out to think of any other place that comes to mind. Last month I was at a mall with a carousel and saw an entire bridal party come in and ride the carousel for pictures. It was cute and a very unique idea. As mentioned, ideas like this only work if you have the guts to be silly in public.
Once I have an idea, how do I find a place?
Now the research begins! If you live in Southeast Michigan, you can skip down to see things that I already researched. If you live elsewhere, here are some ideas to help you find some local places.
1: Find a park, any park. Start by going to your county's website, or even just driving around to find local parks, lakes, ponds, etc. Make a list of places to visit and explore further. Seek out pictures online to make the future steps easier and quicker.
2: Find historical land. Next, even if historical buildings isn't your thing, you may still find that these places have many pretty backdrops outside of just buildings. Research online to find what kind of historical places are in your town.
3: TheKnot Forums. Visit the forums on www.theknot.com or any other wedding website. TheKnot has a local wedding board so you can find your local area, and chat with others to ask their ideas on where to take photos in your area.
4: Make some phone calls. Before you get too excited about any particular place, call their offices (if there is any) to make sure of the following:
-Verify you have permission to shot photos at their location
-Find out if there are any fees involved
-Find out if you are allowed to “book” the place and also make sure no one has booked it already for the time you need it.
5: Do some footwork. With your list AND a digital camera in hand, take a few members of your bridal party to check out the locations. Take pictures of the locations for further review. You can even make your friends pose for some just for fun. Snap a picture of anything you find interesting about the place so you can remember it later. Don't look at the place in general, but instead look for photo opportunities. A certain place can look dull and drab when you look at the OVERALL area, however if you focus on that group of trees over there, or that gazebo over here, you may see many beautiful photo ops! Remember that your photographer can make the best of almost any area and will be sure to showcase it in a way that looks gorgeous no matter what.
6: The Time Factor: You have to also account for the Time you will need to drive to the location. If you have 3 hours between your ceremony and your reception, but the place you want is 1 hour away, that might not be enough time for you to really take good pictures. Be sure to plan your wedding day schedule before deciding on a place so that you know exactly how much time you have available. Once you know your time constraints, use yahoo maps to find out how long it takes to get from your ceremony to the outdoor location, and then back to your reception. Add buffer time on the trip to allow for things that go wrong. This may help you eliminate places that are just too far, OR you may find yourself rescheduling your day so you can hit the place you wanted the most.
7: Decisions, Decisions. Back at home, review your photos to pick your favorites. Pick your first choice and at least one backup choice just in case something goes wrong with your top choice.
That's it! Easy isn't it? Ok, you might think that is a lot of work, but just imagine how much you are going to enjoy the photos. When I was searching for locations, I quickly found some options. However I wasn't satisfied with them! So I searched and searched until I finally found the beautiful place I picked. Now people see my pictures and they ask me “Where is that? Can I go there?”.
Is this going to cost me?
To be honest, it very well could cost you if you are determined to use a certain location, and that certain location is determined to charge you. However, if you are not dead-set on one particular place, you will definitely be able to find a FREE location to take pictures… it just may take a little footwork on your part.
Places that might charge you: Basically if the place is GORGEOUS, they will probably charge you to use it. There are a few local places by me that are beautifully manicured and taken care of very well…. so of course they won't let you take pictures for free. I chalk it up to the cost it takes to pay the employees that keep the place in shape. You may also find that historical places will charge you for use of their property. This could be anywhere from $100-400 for just a few hours at the location. On the plus side, most places that charge you will also ensure no one else will be on the property distracting your photo time.
Places that probably won't charge you: Public parks or landmarks will most likely not charge you, but at the same time they won't be able to guarantee that no one else will be in your way on that particular day. As for the idea above about taking pics at your favorite places in town, those places are not likely to charge you, and are not even that likely to notice you taking pictures! However be prepared for many onlookers. This is not to say that there are always other people at the free locations, but you should be prepared for that.
What if it rains?
Oh the horror… You've planned everything out, found a beautiful location, and the day of your wedding it pours ALL day? What do you do? This is why you need a backup plan. Find an Indoor location that is also pretty for you to take photos if it comes down to it. My hall had a pretty entrance with a spiral staircase as well as some other features so I knew that if worse came to worse I could take photos here. In fact, we did take some photos there anyway, but we could have taken all of our pics if we had to.
Also check out your church and visit the other rooms. Some churches have very nice reception areas or rooms that could be used for photos if you are stuck. Look at the hotel you are staying at as well since they usually have nice lobbies and sometimes highly decorated areas where photos would be great. Another option could be as simple as your own home. If you have a nice decor, or could add some flowers and backdrops, you may find your house to be a great backup plan for photos. Whatever you do, make sure you plan ahead and have an indoor location picked out as a backup.
Who do you bring with you?
This is purely up to you! You could have your entire bridal party go to each location with you, including parents. I opted to just have the bridesmaids and groomsmen to make things a little easier and took all my family pictures at the church. A third option is for you and your spouse to go it alone. Perhaps you are just looking for some romantic outdoor pictures and you don't want anyone else around.
Let's explore those options a little further for the pros and cons.
WHOLE Bridal Party: On the plus side, you can take pictures with your parents and everyone else using the pretty backdrops of your location. On the down side, your parents have to travel with you, usually driving separate from you since you and your attendants are probably in a limo, and your parents have little to no break in between the ceremony and the wedding. If your parents are having family at their house in between, they would miss most of this time as they would be taking photos with you. As an option, you can have your parents come and take your family photos FIRST so that your parents can head home while you finish up with the rest of your bridal party.
Bridesmaids and Groomsmen: This includes flower girls and ring-bearers, but that is also optional. The plus side of bringing your bridal party is that you can take lots of fun pictures. Being outdoors usually leads to more ideas for unique pics, silly pics, or cool pics that you will all remember. The only downside is that your bridal party may get bored and/or restless when you and your spouse are taking couple photos. You can always stash some food and drinks in the limos and tell them to go eat when you are done with them so you can get some alone time.
Just Us: If you really don't care about taking your bridal party pics outside at all, then just make it a private escape. The pro is that your photographer has a lot more time with just the two of you so that she can set up a lot of different and romantic shots. Since no one you know would be around to tease you, you may be more willing to take serious pictures or other types that you normally wouldn't take in front of other people. On the downside, it would not be as fun in my opinion. Spending the whole day with your bridal party is definitely more fun. You have years and years to be alone with your new spouse, so if you don't feel the need to be alone with each other now than bring the group.
Where could I take pics in Southeast Michigan?
Like I said, it takes a lot of footwork to find a place that is good for you and works for your purposes and times. Since I already did a lot of that footwork, here are some ideas for you. Some are free, some are pricey, some will take more research from you, it all depends on what you are willing to do.
1: Mill Race
I choose this place after I found a picture of a wedding couple online that said the picture was taken in Northville, MI. I asked around until I finally learned this was Mill Race. I called and they said they were available for a few hours for me to take photos that day… and those few hours perfectly coincided with my wedding day schedule! Best of all, it was free! Check out my attachments for photos that we took there*. They do not allow people to book the park for photos, so there was a risk of other guests visiting, or someone else booking the park for an event and preventing me from using it. The person I spoke to said she would start asking us to leave 15 minutes before the planned event that was scheduled, but that she wouldn't toss us out as long as we were wrapping up. When we went, there was no visitors. However, you still have to call and check because they do allow people to book the place for wedding ceremonies. Call in advance, and then call again when the time comes closer just to make sure it is still open. Have a back up plan in case it is not.
Mill Race is located at 215 Griswold, Northville, MI. Be sure to visit before the wedding day so you don't get lost! Print maps for your limo driver and photographer.
2: Newburgh Lake (Pointe)
This was my back up plan. As a public area, there was no worry of this place being booked. Check out my attachments for photos I took when I went to check it out. This pretty location has the background of the lake, as well as some interesting benches, stairs, and trees that can be used to make very nice backdrops. Just be forewarned that since this is a public park, you may have some onlookers as you are taking photos. You may have onlookers in ANY park though, so just get used to it!
Newburgh Lake is located at Edward Hines and Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI. Another semi-confusing place, so find it before you plan it!
3. Greenmead Historical Park
I have never been here but I was recommended by a few friends to check it out. I called and did find out it was free to take pictures, however it was slightly complicated as they wanted to set a meeting with me to come see the park rather than just letting me go. I had this in my back pocket as a “just in case” place, but since my 1 and 2 seemed to work out, I never ended up visiting. Apparently it's a nice Historical area that is kept in decent shape for visitors.
Greenmead Historical Park is located at 20501 N Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI.
4. Governer Warner Mansion
If you have cash to burn, or you are willing to pay for a great location, this place looks great. I've never been since I called and they said they charge something like $300 for permission to take photos, however their website is full of pics displaying their beautiful gardens, benches, at least one gazebo and more. At one point I had found a garden tour showcasing so many pretty flowers at this location, but I can't seem to find the link now. It's probably better just to visit yourself! You should be able to negotiate being able to do a quick walkthrough for free so you can see the location.
Governor Warner Mansion and Museum is located at 33805 Grand River Avenue, Farmington, MI. Very pretty and well manicured, but pricey!
5: Heritage Park
This location had a very pretty gazebo and a lake, however they also charged for usage. I believe they stated around $200. Besides that, the gazebo was the only thing I really liked about the place. However, if you take a look at there website, you may find more photo ops for you. It's worth checking out if you are really looking for the best place for you.
Heritage Park is located at Heritage Park Dr., west of Canton Center, south of Cherry Hill.
6. Kellogg Park
This location has a very nice fountain that would make a great backdrop for photos, however I'm not sure what else the park has to offer. It is worth checking out if you live in or near Plymouth.
Kellogg Park is located at North Main in Plymouth, MI. In the link, click to see the Parks Brochure and on page 2 you will see thefountain.
7: Meadowbrook Hall
If you have the time, or live closer to Meadowbrook Hall in … MI, you should definitely check it out. See attached photo* as we took our engagement photos there. Also free, this location is very pretty and can lead to many beautiful photos! Please note, while we were able to take our engagement pictures for free, our photographer did note that they will probably charge if you want to take wedding photos there. Please also note that people may book areas of the hall for events and weddings and therefore you may not be allowed to take pictures everywhere, or maybe not even at all. Call to figure this out before you fall in love with th
Meadowbrook Hall is located at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. Plenty of pretty photo ops at this location.
8: Hines Drive, Local Parks etc.
I've listed a place along Hines Drive already, but wanted to note that there are many pretty locations along Hines Drive! A lot of them may not look the greatest at first, but as mentioned above, if you focus on certain aspects of Hines Drive you can find some very nice photo ops. If you are really stuck for where to take pictures, try driving up and down Hines Drive, taking pictures of your favorite spots. You should find plenty of places to take pics. Check out this map of Wayne County as well as Hines Drives parks for some locations and pictures.
The same can be said for almost any local park. Even though you may have been to a certain park, and you didn't think it was very pretty, I ask you to visit again. Once again, put your camera goggles on and only look for photo ops. I bet that even your local school park has a few spots that would make for pretty photos. Check out this map of Livonia, MI Parks or this map of Canton, MI Parks or this map of Plymouth, MI Parks for a starting point.
Wrapping it all up
In the end, if having pretty outdoor photos is important to you, then you will need to do some research in order to get it just right. It would be easy to say “I'll just go to this park”, but with the amount you are probably spending on photographers, it would be nice to get the BEST place you can find instead of the everyday place. Even if you think you have time to figure this out, it's a good idea to start planning early in case you have to book a place in advance. Enjoy your searching!!

Pacific Scoop:
Report – By PMC Newsdesk.
A claim by a scientist that some Pacific islands and atolls are growing in size rather than being eroded by climate change has been criticised by an Auckland-based Pacific photographer.
The claims suggest storm surges and severe cyclones that are linked to climate change are actually pushing coral up onto atolls and causing them to increase in size. The findings were published in New Scientist magazine and were co-written by Paul Kench of Auckland University’s School of Environment.
Click here for the New Zealand Herald’s report on this issue.
But the claims are being challenged by Auckland documentary photographer Jocelyn Carlin specialises in socially anthropologic images and has first hand exposure to Pacific people’s stories from Kiribati and Tuvalu.
Carlin believes the New Scientist report is a “one dimensional view” of the affect of climate change on the Pacific Islands by only measuring land mass.
The real impact, she says, is the seawater intrusion – that is, seawater coming up through the ground, especially during high spring tides and this is nothing to do with the atolls changing shape.
The following statement is from Auckland Festival of Photography. It details how you can also view Jocelyn Carlin’s work at Auckland’s Aotea Centre and titled: Talking Culture series showcasing Climate Change and Environmental Photography on World Environment Day.
Pacific Island photographer says “size doesn’t matter”
Press Release:
Auckland Festival of Photography.
Auckland documentary photographer Jocelyn Carlin specialises in socially anthropologic images and has first hand exposure to Pacific people’s stories from Kiribati and Tuvalu.
Jocelyn responds to the research reported by Geography Associate Professor Paul Kench, in which he relies on aerial and satellite photography, saying she believes this is a one dimensional view of the affect of climate change on the Pacific Islands by only measuring land mass.
Jocelyn says “try telling the Pacific people their island is OK because it’s growing in land mass. This will conflict greatly with their reality when they are trying to cope with storms that coincide with spring tides and their fresh water supply is constantly compromised.”
Jocelyn maintains that while coral debris may increase island mass, the real issue is the majority of atolls are already suffering because of an extreme lack of fresh water because it is infiltrated by seawater, a condition that is exacerbated during drought. Kiribati has just come out of a three year drought and many of the islands are focussed on fresh water collection so they can survive.
The real impact, she says, is the seawater intrusion – that is, seawater coming up through the ground, especially during high spring tides and this is nothing to do with the atolls changing shape.
Jocelyn welcomes a debate with Dr Paul Kench as she says “it’s one thing to be photographing from satellites but my experience of the issues is different from living and working amongst the Pacific Island people. It paints another story of what it’s like to be actually living on vulnerable Pacific Islands that have changed considerably over the last 50 years so that now a lot of them are virtually uninhabitable to the indigenous people”.
Jocelyn is part of the Auckland Festival of Photography Talking Culture series showcasing Climate Change and Environmental Photography on World Environment Day.
She will be showing and talking about her work in the Pacific Islands at Goodman Fielder Room, Aotea Centre, Greys Ave , Auckland , 10.30am -4pm, Saturday 5 June 2010. See www.photographyfestival.org.nz for more Festival info.

If you are a soccer player in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy then you are extremely lucky. The U.S. Soccer Development Academy is the best youth soccer league in the country. Each season in the development academy is thirty games long and the best teams will qualify for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs. Each game is extremely important because every time you win you are helping your team get a step closer to winning a national soccer championship. For this very reason, it is important to understand how to prepare for a game in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League. Many players think that if they get a good nights sleep and eat well they are doing all they need to prepare for a youth soccer game. The fact of the matter is that much more must be done to prepare properly for a game in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
First, you need to take care of your body from a nutritional stand point. The night before your youth soccer game you should drink as much water as you possibly can. Even if you are not thirsty you should still drink a ton of water. Being hydrated is the key to having a lot of energy come for your U.S. Soccer Development Academy League game. You should drink water until your urine is clear. If your urine is clear it means that your body is completely hydrated. You should also have a complete and full meal the night before your U.S. Soccer Development Academy League game. Most players think that it is important to have a full meal a few hours before a youth soccer game. The fact of the matter is that your pre game meal is truly the meal that you eat the night before the game. The reason for this is that it takes twelve to twenty four hours for your digestive system to convert food to energy. Aside from a nutritional stand point, you should prepare for the game mentally.
The night before your game, you should visualize yourself playing in the game. When you are visualizing yourself playing in your U.S. Soccer Development Academy game you should visualize yourself playing well. There are two different ways that you can visualize yourself playing in your U.S. Soccer Development Academy game. These two visualization methods involve first person visualization and third person visualization. For third person visualization you should visualize yourself playin well as if you were someone in the stands watching yourself play. For first person visualization you should visualizing yourself playing well as if you were seeing it though your own eyes. This visualization will help give you the confidence to play well during your U.S. Soccer Development Academy games!

Bransans Weblog
The key for the host nation will be the play of midfielder Stephen Pienaar, who has demonstrated a superb scoring touch this season for English Premier League power Everton.
South Africa has traditionally been a defensive-minded squad, but coach Carlos Alberto Parriera – who led Brazil to a World Cup victory in 1994 – has been trying to implement a possession-oriented quick passing attack, emphasizing the technical skill of players like Pienaar to compensate for their relative lack of physicality.
Flankers Siboniso Gaxa and Tsepho Masilela will need to maintain possession in the middle of the field to limit the scoring chances of the prolific offenses of Mexico,
France and Uruguay. Parriera, somewhat controversially, did not select South Africa's all-time leading goal-scorer Benni McCarthy for his squad. Questions had circled around the West Ham striker's level of fitness, but many believed that McCarthy would be selected because of his experience in international competition.
At 90th in FIFA's World Rankings, however, Bafana Bafana will need to capture the same home field lightning-in-a-bottle that propelled them last June to advance past group play. South Africa's greatest advantage may be in the stands, as South African fans are notorious for their use of plastic horns, called Vuvezelas, whose deafening drone can severely limit how effectively other managers communicate with their squads.
Mexico
After a disasterous start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, Mexico fired coach Sven Goran Eriksson in favor of the man who led El Tri to the Round of 16 in 2002, Javier Agguire. By luring veteran Cuauhtèmoc Blanco out of international retirement, Agguire reinvigorated his underperforming team and secured Mexico a spot in South Africa. Blanco – Mexico's second all-time international goal scorer – adds a respected veteran presence into a lineup full of young talent, including goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, winger Andrès Guardado and midfielder Giovani dos Santos.
Blanco, however, has proven to be too slow to fill the teams gapping hole at center midfielder, the only major weakness for the Mexican side. Dos Santos is an option, but he has shown more promise at a wide position. Defensively, Mexico is anchored by experienced Barcelona standout Rafael Màrquez, who provides El Tri with an aggressive and physical presence in the middle of the field.
The wildcard for Mexico will be the play of the enigmatic 21-year-old Javier Hernandez, who at one time was the brightest of Mexico's young stars, securing a transfer to Manchester United after leading the Mexican Primera Divisiòn in scoring. Recently, however, Hernandez's play has dropped off dramatically, as he has failed to convert several apparent scoring opportunities during El Tri's qualifying run. Against top teams like France and Uruguay, Mexico will need Hernandez to display the elite skill set that made him one of the top commodities in the soccer world.
Mexico finds itself in the unenviable position of opening the tournament against the home-team South Africa, but the Mexicans may not feel as out of place as one might expect. The opening game will be played in Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, at an elevation of more than 5,000 feet. Mexico trains at elevation and is dominant at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca, which is also situated at over a mile over sea level. This could be crucial against teams like France and South Africa, teams whose level of fitness has been called into question.
France
The biggest enigma in Group A is France. Despite being loaded with premier talent, Les Bleus virtually sleepwalked through qualifying, sneaking into the field only by virtue of a miraculously uncalled Thierry Henry handball in Ireland's box that William Gallas converted into the clinching goal. It is appropriate that these two players connected on qualifying's most controversial goal, as both Henry and Gallas are representative of major divisions in the French soccer world.
Henry – France's all-time leading international goal-scorer – is a prodigiously gifted striker, but questions have been raised about the 31-year-old's level of fitness. Coach Raymond Domenech elected stick with the old guard of Henry, Nicolas Anelka, Sidney Govou and Djibril Cisse at the forward position at the expense of talented 22-year-old striker Karim Benzema, who was left off the roster.
Benzema has disappointed slightly this season at Real Madrid, but remains one of the most gifted young players in Europe. As for Gallas – France's most rugged defender – a recent calf injury has left his spot in South Africa in question. Gallas believes he will be ready to play, but Domenech has yet to commit to adding him to France's final roster. Domenech has drawn heavy criticism for these moves, and will be replaced at the helm of the national team after the World Cup by former Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc.
The key for France will be the play of Yoann Gourcuff, a 23-year-old midfielder who has been hailed in the French media as the successor of the legendary Zinedine Zidane. If Gourcuff can come close to these lofty expectations, France still has enough firepower upfront to advance to the knockout round.
Uruguay
Despite being the smallest nation in Group A with a population of 3.4 million, Uruguay boasts two of the group's most dangerous players. Striker Diego Forlan has been a prolific scorer for Spain's Atletico Madrid, leading all of the European leagues in scoring during the 2008-09 season.
He will be paired at the top of the Uruguayan attack with Ajax Amsterdam forward Luis Suàrez, who has played well enough for his Dutch squad to draw interest from world powers like Barcelona and Manchester United. In a group where goals figure to be at a premium, these two elite weapons give Uruguay a distinct advantage.
Martin Càceres, who has impressed this season for the Italian team Juventus, will lead the defense for Uruguay. Despite their talent, Uruguay was maddeningly inconsistent during qualifying, losing to South American punching-bag Peru and posting uninspired draws against cellar-dwelling Venezuela and Bolivia.
Recently, however, the team has rounded into form, putting on a scoring display with a 3-1 victory against Switzerland. Not surprisingly for such a small country, Uruguay's major weakness is a lack of depth. If their front-liners like Forlan and Suàrez can stay healthy, and if coach Oscar Tabàrez can get his team to play with the same intensity they displayed against the Swiss, the Uruguayans will be the favorite to will Group A.
Gamevil's Soccer Superstars recently hit the App Store, bringing the same classic sprite based graphics, gameplay that will take you back to the Super Nintendo days, and RPG style progression of super players that will have you saying "just one more game" long after you should have stopped playing. Much like Baseball Superstars 2010 [$4.99 / Free], this extra layer of depth provided by the RPG elements inside the game somehow manage to make the Superstars games incredibly appealing even to those of us who don't normally get that involved in sports games.
So far reactions in our forums have been positive, with some people having issues with the controls. In Soccer Superstars, the movement of your player is controlled using an analog stick of sorts, but to keep you from constantly needing to keep your left thumb on the screen your player will just keep running in whatever direction you touched last. It seems like once you wrap your head around this somewhat unconventional control scheme, Soccer Superstars is just as much fun as Baseball Superstars, a personal favorite of mine.
We're going to be taking a closer look at this game in the near future, but in the meantime, Soccer Superstars is a safe purchase for anyone who likes arcade style soccer games and/or endlessly filling experience and stat bars to advance a roster of characters.
Only 3,074 fans braved the muggy June weather, questionable officiating and largely uninspired play at RFK Stadium for D.C. United’s U.S. Open Cup qualifier against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday. But after 106 minutes, a 17-year-old kid from Honduras gave them a moment to hang on to, a dose of drama and class that defined the match.
With the game tied 1-1 and the second extra time period starting, United used its final sub to add Andy Najar, a crafty young winger who scored his first MLS goal four days earlier. He promptly collected the ball on the right flank, cut into the penalty area and used a clever touch to split Salt Lake’s Tony Beltran and Will Johnson before sliding a shot under the charging Kyle Reynish.
Goal. He had been on the field for less than two minutes, but his impact was made. Just like that.
“I’m really happy to score the goal,” Najar said. “Luckily, I got the opportunity and was able to take advantage of it.”
United fielded a largely second choice lineup for its third fixture in eight days, with right back Jordan Graye and central midfielder Stephen King as the only starters from Saturday’s 3-2 league win over Chivas USA to again crack the first 11. This meant a seat on the bench for Najar during regulation while a pair of dubious penalty kick calls led to a tally for each side. When coach Curt Onalfo called the rookie’s number late, however, Najar was more than ready.
“We wanted to make sure we would save our last sub until the last possible moment,” Onalfo said. “Certainly, at the end, Andy stepped up and showed us some brilliance that he really has.”
The hype surrounding Najar has been tangible since he first traveled with United for preseason training in February. Although his presence was widely dismissed as an exercise in experience, the Choluteca native’s flashy play and uncanny confidence earned him a first-team contract and an opening day start.
“I thought he was a very special player, very talented,” recalled forward Santino Quaranta, who himself entered the league as a 16-year-old. “The best thing about him is he has an amazing head on his shoulders.”
Najar’s first few performances were quiet affairs as he adjusted to the rhythm and physicality of the professional game while also being slowed by injuries. In recording his first professional goal and assist during a 4-2 Open Cup qualifier triumph against FC Dallas on April 28, Najar gave the Black-and-Red supporters a taste of what he could do. During Saturday’s victory, Najar’s well-taken header against Chivas USA opened the scoring, and his energy gave the Goats’ backline fits all match.
If there were any doubters about his status as one of the most exciting young players in MLS today, his game-changing 15-minute cameo against Real Salt Lake should silence them.
When Najar set his eyes on goal, he didn’t think twice about individually taking on Beltran and Johnson, two key cogs from a team that won the MLS Cup in November. And why should he have? After all, a few months ago he thought he would be spending early June winding down junior year and looking forward to summer vacation.
“He’s dynamic. He doesn’t really think a lot – he just does it,” Quaranta said. “It’s great to have him on the team. He’s gritty, he’s a great kid and I really enjoy having him here.”
Added defender Devon McTavish: “It doesn’t matter what minute you put him in, he’s going to be dangerous.”
Scarecely attended and only televised via a live stream on United’s website, the 2-1 win didn’t garner the audience it – and Najar – ultimately deserved. But word of mouth will spread about the wunderkind roaming the pitch at 2400 East Capitol St. When it does, MLS fans will understand what they’ve been missing.
Simply put, it’s time to believe the hype.
